Are these the things to cure our economy?

There are many ideas about what can be accomplished to get our economy back into a prosperous position. Most of the unemployed are ready and able to go back to work.

Why are we making other countries wealthy by buying their products and closing our manufacturing plants?

Infrastructure - Streets - Bridges - Water treatment plants - et al
After the Great Depression President Franklin D. Roosevelt created a program which put people back to work. The program turned the depressed position of the country around and unemployed people were able to get off of the welfare rolls. Some of the unskilled were given a broom and told to keep a certain area of street CLEAN. It gave them a paying job until something else, paying better, and allowing them to use whatever talents they had. I have heard that our public bridges, streets, railroad tracks, water treatment plants and many other parts of our INFRASTRUCTURE - ARE FALLING APART!! And none of the Government Agencies have the money to repair them.

Create Employment
When President Roosevelt started his work program he initiated a method for unemployed individuals to re-establish a sense of pride. They were once again, able to earn a living, pay their bills and feed their families by the sweat of their brow, giving them their independence. We are currently at a critical point in our economy. The current home foreclosure rates have reached staggering proportions.

Unemployment has teetered back and forth giving the indication things aren't as bad as they actually are. The problem is, people that were earning large wages have been laid-off and their jobs have left the country. Leaving them with the option of remaining unemployed or taking a job paying them as little as half or less then they were previously earning. Can this be stopped? Possibly.

Taking a page out of history and using it today to change the direction of this global disaster seems to be one of the ways to accomplish it.I am not a big fan of government controlled projects! so, that IS NOT what I am suggesting.

Perhaps creating some sort of volunteer alliance involving large, wealthy corporations and some of the wealthiest individuals on the FORBES LIST of Multi-Millionaires might be the solution.

I am not selecting any individuals or companies specifically, but perhaps companies like EXXON-MOBIL, MICROSOFT, CHASE MANHATTAN, and many more that report large profits while some individuals are at their wits end because they are losing their home. I will not list the wealthy celebrities or atheletes that boast about how they want to help the country turn around, but there are many of them.

So what am I suggesting? Well, I have heard statements to the affect that there has not been a new oil refinery built in the past 30 years. Also, some of the oil companies have leased land that is in the midst of oil fields, that are not being drilled on.

Would that relieve the immediate problem? Probably not, but it would eliminate the conversation about off shore or arctic drilling.

How about this one? Import autos have been in the top ten demand and sales position for quite a while while American made autos manufacturers are closing plants and laying people off. I just read that FORD is building two new Fiesta Auto Plants. One in Mexico and a second one in another off shore location.

O.k. I know, they are trying to keep the costs down. To this I respond; It is my understanding the company increased the use of robotic assembly lines to [supposedly] increase production, thereby reducing the cost of the finished product.

HOW ABOUT THIS? The robotic machine can be operated by one person eliminating 6 people. What would be the matter with training those six people to operate 6 other robots and multiplying production [by six] with the smaller increase in cost for the additional production attributable to materials instead of laying off five people?

I THOUGHT INCREASED PRODUCTION IS WHAT ROBOTICS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ALL ABOUT.

I recently had a lengthy conversation about the economy with a 26 year old college graduate that was married with one child. He told me he drives an older Japanese auto that he bought new while attending college which has 100,000+/- miles on it and NO PROBLEMS. He told me he plans to continue driving it and eventually trade it in for another Japanese auto.

I asked, "why?"

He related to me, his views on American made autos was that it is a continuous rip off, according to him. "American made products are made to break down and require repair or replacement after limited use," he continued. "Have you read Consumer reports," he asked?

He makes a valid point.

We, Americans, have been the leaders in many fields. Whether it is engineering, medicine, science, or whatever. You name it, we've probably done it.

So the question is; why can't we compete with these other countries? The standing excuse is, the wages we have to pay OUR employees is outlandish as compared to what they pay their employees over seas.

Righhht, has anyone paid any attention to how these people live? Excuse me, exist. These statements are usually made by CEO's or similar executives, that are earning millions of dollars in salary with additional millions of dollars in bonuses each year.

Alright, which came first, the chicken or the egg?

If the employees are earning enough wages, aren't they putting it back into the economy? You know, like buying homes, furniture and cars, which creates other jobs.

We've almost come full circle to the home foreclosure reference made earlier. There is more to be said.

I'll leave it there for another post.

Senior Thoughts About a Lot of Things

What do you mean I've gained another five pounds!
Sound familiar? Having reached the plateau of life, that means I am a senior citizen, I can not believe what is happening to my body. I follow all of my Doctors instructions, and beyond what tell me to do. I've cut back on my food intake to about half of what I used to eat and still I have accumulated an additional 20 pounds, and growing. I bought a stationary bike and ride every other day, like they told me. Yet, over the years, I have left the 180 lb. weight class, which wasn't too bad for a 5 foot eleven frame. Alas, now I have achieved the 205-210 class for the past 9 years.

The first explanation was; "that's because you've quit smoking." OK, but what about not eating as much? No Reply.
The next reason a while later was; "that's because you needed the gall bladder operation." OK, I repeated, but what about not eating as much? Once again, No Reply.

Yes, I can remember being that "little rolly-poly kid" that had to wear chubby sized trousers until I reached eleven. Then I shot up like a bean pole and could really eat anything I wanted..and did.

Much to my dismay, with as much effort as I am exerting now, it just doesn't seem to be eliminating the pounds.

I can Thank God I have good recall. I haven't had the curse of any forgetfulness. Yet, sometimes I find myself thinking, that's really too much information to retain after all of these years.

Then, while surfing the net, [which is not a part of my exercise routine] I found a web site which first made me chuckle, then peeked my interest. It talked about,
"lose 9 lbs. every 11 days."

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? THIS I HAD TO SEE. If this sounds interesting to you, write me for more information.

Oh, by the way, You don't have to be a BOOMER or SENIOR to get the information.

Over 65 and Surfing the Web

Over 65 and Surfing the Web

I was recently enlightened to the fact that many of my Boomer, Bloomer and Senior friends have entered into the WWW. Yes, they have joined the INTERNET!!

With all of my concern about the Mature Crowd not having the proper amount of income to feed, clothe and purchase their prescriptions, many of them have gone into online businesses.

With the knowledge they picked up during their working years, they have achieved a high level of ability to become a better entrepreneur.

Strange statistics for this age group, they are split into two groups. One group never used the Internet and don't intend to. The other group not only surfs the 'NET, but almost half of the Mature Crowd that is online have bought something online.

One more statistic, this one from an AARP survey. Seventeen per cent of the people reaching the age of 65 plan to launch new businesses. From what we have gleaned out of our research, they are going to work, that's right, from their homes on the computer.

With this knowledge at hand, I surfed around and found an ideal enterprise for a home based business.

Click Here! For more information on an emerging niche, consider the Mature Crowd.

Access Public Records from Your Own Home

Are you curious about a friend or acquaintance? Curiosity is a normal affect of human behavior, and very often we are driven to act on our curiosity.
Some people use this opportunity to actively pry into a person’s life. This may work, but these people are very often caught. Many friendships and other relationships have ended poorly as a result of active prying.
In order to satisfy your own curiosity and maintain a friendship, you can find the answers you need without alienating or offending anyone using SearchPublicRecords.org.

Sometimes friends and acquaintances give us conflicting information. When this happens, it is always in your best interest to make every effort to discover the truth. In a traditional background search, you would have to fill out various forms, all of which can be traced back to you.
This is not the case with a search on SearchPublicRecords.org. This site will never reveal the name of a person conducting a search. In fact, the site is so discrete that no one will ever now that you have been conducting a complete background check.

In order to run an online search, all the information you will need is the person’s first name, last name, and state of residence. You will not have to know detailed information about the individual or personal and sensitive information about that person.
All you will need to do is enter the name and state and hit the “Search” button. Then, in a matter of seconds, you will have access to arrest records, tax liens, court judgments, bankruptcies, and past and current arrest warrants.

SearchPublicRecords.org uses a comprehensive database of over one billion public records. While all of this information is open to the public, it is often difficult to collect all of this information. In many cities, you would have to spend hours traveling across the city to various public offices in order to obtain these records.
However, SearchPublicRecords.org can gather all of this data into one report in a short period of time. In fact, all of the information you need can be at your fingertips in a matter of seconds.

SearchPublicRecords.org also has access to several forms of private records. These are records that you would not normally be able to obtain through traditional means. In many cases, you would have to wait several weeks and pay a private investigator quite a bit of money to obtain some of the records contained on SearchPublicRecords.org. Instead, all of these records are readily available to you at one low cost.
You will not be nickel and dimed over every piece of evidence turned up by SearchPublicRecords.org, While some private investigators may charge you per the document, SearchPublicRecords.org charges you one flat fee for all the available records.

As we all know, outward appearances can be very deceiving. Having the availability of this kind of service is something that many people would love to have, AND YOU CAN GIVE IT TO THEM.

Curiosity can be a wonderful thing, especially if it allows you to learn something about the people who surround you. This will ensure that you can make informed decisions about spending time with them in the future. Your safety depends on it.

Baby Boomers - keeping up with technology.

The following article was found to be quite interesting since it was sent to me by a teenaged grandchild. I guess they do think about us once in a while, even though we think they don't.

Anyway, here it is for your perusal.

Baby Boomers are Embracing High Tech
(ARA) – Today’s Baby Boomers are the first generation to grow up with television and contrary to popular opinion, recent studies show they are still the generation most likely to embrace new technology.

In other words, Boomers are more likely than the younger generations to have a high definition television (HDTV), iPod, digital video recorders (DVRs) and subscription to satellite service.

The reason they stay on or ahead of the curve is simple -- demographics show they tend to have higher household incomes, are college-educated and have more disposable income. Boomers also spend more time researching the latest trends and innovations.

Simply stated, Boomers have the want, the means and the know-how to create their own techno-savvy world. So, what are they looking for?

TV Land recently conducted a “Joy of Tech study” that identified three key factors Boomers look for when buying new technology, specifically for the home theater -- a luxury that has changed significantly over the past several decades. Their priorities include:

Content & Quality
Programming options with a large variety for the entire family (news, documentaries, weather, sports, movies, shows for the younger generation) and the excellent picture and sound quality of high definition televisions (HDTVs).

The price of HDTVs is on the decline and the Consumer Electronics Association estimates that 16 million HDTV sets will be shipped to U.S. stores this year making these high-end sets more affordable and more accessible. Boomers who have done their research and want the most out of their HDTV investment will also seek out HDTV channels like the National Geographic Channel HD, Discovery HD Theater and more to make the investment in HD worthwhile. Satellite TV provider DISH Network has these popular channels and many others and offers the largest lineup of national HD channels today with 32, as well as hundreds of all-digital standard definition channels.

Convenience
The convenience of being able to record shows to watch later and cut commercials.

Boomers also want control of their TV and the ultimate in convenience like the digital video recorder (DVR) that allows them to control when and how they watch their favorite TV shows. Satellite TV viewers like DISH Network subscribers use the DVR to speed through commercials and record their favorite shows to watch whenever they want. Want the 6 o’clock news at 7:34 p.m.? You got it. And because DISH Network has one of the highest-ranked high definition (HD) DVRs on the market and the most national HD channels, Boomers will get their favorite programs in stunning HD combined with the ultimate convenience of a DVR.

For more information, or to sign up for service, log on to http://www.dishnetwork.com/. DVRs come standard with the DishDVR Advantage Package and the HD/DVR receiver, the ViP622, is free to new customers.

Boomers-Bloomers & Seniors

Sure, I know - you could have come up with a better title then that! But, there's a method to my madness. I anguished over a title for this blog for so long, I just decided to use something about the audience I was seeking.

Oh yeah, the web site, too. O.k. one thing at a time. The quickest and easiest is the explaination about the audience I was seeking. Two out of three of the title words have been used by almost everyone at sometime. Boomers - the name adopted for the adults born after WW II. And Seniors - everybody knows who they are.

Ahh, my specialized title - Bloomers!! I use this term for those that have not quite reached the age that AARP is accepting. They were born after WW 2, but long enough after to be too young to be classified as BOOMERS. Therefore, they have not earned the "L" for Living Long Enough.
So there. Now you have it.

Now, the web site name. Let me explain, I originally used the name ARGUS for a company I once started. It was sort of an acronym created from the first initials of my families names. DON'T ASK WHAT THEIR NAMES ARE.

After that company was sold and I could not use that name any more, I remembered reading something about Argus in GREEK MYTHOLOGY! Sooo, I search further and found their version of my acronym. They had that name "
Argus Panoptes or Argos (Άργος)". IF YOU WANT TO TAKE THE TIME TO READ ABOUT GREEK MYTHOLOGY...check out WIKIPEDIA.com.

So now that I have put you to sleep as Hermes did to Argus, [if you get into it at Wikipedia, you will probably figured out why that name] if not one more clue.

YOU HAVEN'T!

All right, I'll tell you. We are attempting to be like ARGUS having 100 eyes watching all types of goings on NATIONALLY, as well as all age and life styles of as many as we can.

No, we are not going after the teen through thirty-something age brackets with this blog. We'll reserve that category for another entry. From my observations that age group has enough on their plate as it is. One quick comment about that group and then I promise not to ever approach it again, well maybe not ever.

Here it is.

During my lifetime I have listened to Rag time, Jazz, Country, Folk, Rock & Roll, and almost every other kind of MUSIC that has been published, but honestly, I just can't understand how we ended up with so many different musical classifications or get into - what they call - Hip Hop or Rap? AND being a former musician, I have really tried.

But, as long as everyone is happy with what they listen to, so be it.

O.k. that's it.
